ART Station Students Decorate New Dog Park

ART Station’s summer arts camp serves over 300 students from age 5 – 17.  Many of the students this summer created whimsical art work with a canine theme for the new Dog Park in the City of  Stone Mountain.  The designs were created by ART Station staff member Michael Hidalgo and cut out from luan lumber.  The students sanded, primed and painted the luan.  Nancy Knight, Director of Education at ART Station assisted the students through out the process.  “Our students found the process of painting on wood to be very different from the regular art work that they do at ART Station which is usually done on paper or canvas.  They loved the freedom we gave them to be just as creative as they wanted to be. Michael provided the cut out design, but the students made all color decisions and designed all the features on the larger than life-size dogs.  They felt great about doing something for the city that would have a long term impact.  But, most especially because if was for the Dog Park.  Not to mention the fact that they all love dogs.”

To see the new canine art work in person, visit the City of Stone Mountain’s new Dog Park located behind the Visitors Center on 3rd and 4th Street.  For additional information call ART Station at 770 469 1105
