Monsters Galore! by Sarah Kargol
"The
artist must bow to the monster of his own imagination." R. Wright. Monsters
are a universal subject matter that allow viewers to safely place themselves
into the situations being depicted in her work. Sarah is a mixed-media artist
and a mother who is busily engaged in raising four young boys. they have
become a major source of inspiration; their daily antics, speech, and
curiosity all drive me to create. mixed media paintings evolve from materials
that have had past lives. buttons, fabric, and recycled images bring a sense
of nostalgia to the work by manipulating these recycled materials, giving them
a new and unexpected life.

Branching Out Art by Tom Chambers
Each piece begins with a single stem. Limbs are added in an artistic pattern, replicating naturally occurring branches and creating one-of-a-kind framed or free -form wall sculpture or free-standing sculpture. A combination of wood and acrylic, the pieces give the illusion of naturally flowing branches. Each sculpture is one-of-a-kind, leaving the viewer to wonder if the piece was created by nature or by man.

My Bungalow Home– by Wade Lincoln
Nashville artist Wade Lincoln works are of a distinctive style of heavily textured acrylic on canvas panel, reminiscent of stained glass. His work also is in the handcrafted quarter sawn oak frames with hand rubbed bungalow brown stain finish. He is greatly influenced by works of the Arts & Crafts era, like the art tile and pottery of Rookwood and Grueby, and the furniture of Stickley and the Roycrofters. Their work shows the deep, personal relationship between the craft and the craftsman. Elbert Hubbard, founder of the Roycroft Artisan Community, said, “Art is not a thing, it is a way.” This is Wade’s way.

Experiental Textures in Watermedia by Robin Howe Townsend. Robin Howe Townsend is a versatile artist alternating from the whimsical to the impressionist to the abstract. Recognized for here colorful landscapes of Tuscany and Provence, she also works with her fingers, tissue paper and dollar store items reflecting her personal joy in the artistic process.
Textile Works of Betsey VonDreele
Betsey VonDreele manipulates small strips of fabric, natural materials and found objects into collages recreating the landscapes and moods of the East Cost shores from the rocky coast of Maine, to the Nantucket moors, to the Delaware seashore where she now lives.

Dune Crossing 2 by Betsey VonDreele
DeKalb School System Annual Art Exhibition
ART Station Artistic Director, David Thomas, met featured artist Betsey VonDreele at an arts festival last year in Rohoboth Beach, DL. David says "After seeing Betsey's art, I invited her to exhibit in our galleries in Stone Mountain. I am sure that her technique, style, execution and subject matter will be a big hit for our gallery, theatre patrons and students." Viewed from a distance her work is often mistaken for painting, a trick of the eye which is revealed upon close examination of the details. Small scraps of fabric are cut, frayed, gathered, manipulated and then sewn on muslin using applique, quilting, and embroidery techniques. Typical materials include contton, hand-dyed silk, metallic threads, natural materials and the occasional found object. When the fabrics are sewn in successive layers starting at the horizon line and working forward in the landscape, the effect is 3-dimensional. When the handstiching is complete, the muslin edges are turned in to finish off the piece and secure the stiching. Framing completes the work. Betsey received her art training at Drew University, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Rhode Island School of Design. Her works will be on view from March 28th - May 24.
Also Showing in the ART Station Gallerires are Experimental Textures in
Watermedia, by Robin Howe Townsend
Robin is a versatile artist alternating from the whimsical to the impressionist
to the abstract. Without any formal art school training, Robin picked up art at
the age of 40. Instead of relying on rules, exacting perspective or anatomical
study, she just immersed herself in "play." Her work reflects her personal joy
in the process ... all energy and spontanaiety. For more information on Robin
Howe Townsend click
here. The Upstairs Galleries are currently featuring the works of the art
students and faculty from the DeKalb County Schools. This is the 12th year that
ART Station has collaborated with the DeKalb School system to present a county
wide exhibition of student and faculty work. The upstairs front gallery spot
lights the work of the elementary students, while the back gallery show cases
all of the middle and secondary schools in DeKalb County. The Conference room
holds the DeKalb County Art Faculty exhibition.
