Experiental Textures in Watermedia by Robin Howe Townsend. Robin Howe Townsend is a versatile artist alternating from the whimsical to the impressionist to the abstract. Textile Works of Betsey VonDreele

Betsey VonDreele manipulates small strips of fabric, natural materials and found objects into collages recreating the landscapes and moods of the East Cost shores from the rocky coast of Maine, to the Nantucket moors, to the Delaware seashore where she now lives.

Dune Crossing 2 by Betsey VonDreele

DeKalb School System Annual Art Exhibition

ART Station Artistic Director, David Thomas, met featured artist Betsey VonDreele at an arts festival last year in Rohoboth Beach, DL. David says "After seeing Betsey's art, I invited her to exhibit in our galleries in Stone Mountain. I am sure that her technique, style, execution and subject matter will be a big hit for our gallery, theatre patrons and students." Viewed from a distance her work is often mistaken for painting, a trick of the eye which is revealed upon close examination of the details. Small scraps of fabric are cut, frayed, gathered, manipulated and then sewn on muslin using applique, quilting, and embroidery techniques. Typical materials include contton, hand-dyed silk, metallic threads, natural materials and the occasional found object. When the fabrics are sewn in successive layers starting at the horizon line and working forward in the landscape, the effect is 3-dimensional. When the handstiching is complete, the muslin edges are turned in to finish off the piece and secure the stiching. Framing completes the work. Betsey received her art training at Drew University, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Rhode Island School of Design. Her works will be on view from March 28th - May 24.

Also Showing in the ART Station Gallerires are Experimental Textures in Watermedia, by Robin Howe Townsend
Robin is a versatile artist alternating from the whimsical to the impressionist to the abstract. Without any formal art school training, Robin picked up art at the age of 40. Instead of relying on rules, exacting perspective or anatomical study, she just immersed herself in "play." Her work reflects her personal joy in the process ... all energy and spontanaiety.
